Vager Hauers Paranoia Small Seconds – not bad but too conventional

I have always been attracted by the small seconds watch, just as the name implies, this type of watches does not have a central second hand, while its second hand is set on a subdial that is usually positioned at 6 o’clock on the main dial. I like such watches, and I have already had several pieces, the most favorite one is the Sea-gull ultra thin which I have shared a review in the past, sometimes such watch has a simple and fresh design that brings me a sense of calm and comfort. I know there are a lot of small seconds watches made in the Switzerland that look more classic, but with more expensive prices, I can not afford, so, sometimes I like browsing on Taobao to seek for the watches I like, in most cases I will get some results and make decision between several good ones. Chinese watches are good alternatives to those Swiss watches, they have similar designs, but the prices are much more affordable, I did not mean fakes here. For Vager Hauers, I knew this brand months ago and have found they made excellent watches, at least their watches have good designs and more creative than most other Chinese watches. I posted reviews on two watches from Vager Hauers, one is the Yuan Heng Li Zhen that has a strong Chinese culture, the other is a clown tourbillon watch, today, the Vager Hauers watch I am going to share here is a small seconds watch that looks more formal and suitable for most men.

Do you like this watch? I think most of you guys will say yes, but I do not like as much as I firstly saw it, the watch looks great, especially the beautiful blued steel hands, which is part of the reasons for many people to buy this watch at their first glance. Honestly, I am starting to feel a bit tired of this watch’s design, too many circles on the dial, after wearing it for several weeks, I feel it does not look as classic as my Sea-gull ultra thin watch, I admit the black and white color combination is always a secret code to make a successful small seconds watch. I am not familiar with Swiss watches, but the circles design on this watch’s dial looks familiar, do any Swiss watches use the same design, Patek Philippe?

Do not go deep into the area of homage field, this is the advice for Vager Hauers. They did very well before, integrated the Chinese culture into the watch designs, hope they can stay on this path, now no Chinese watches have made success in this field, this is a great opportunity for them. If they truly want to position the brand in this direction, they should probably avoid producing this type of watch.

Vager Hauers Clown Tourbillon Watch Review

I like this Chinese watch more and more. Vager Hauers indeed looks amazing and has a brighter future than most other watches from China, especially those homage watches, certainly not including San Martin. When I go deep in China watch industry and wrote reviews on the watches made in China, I found many new watches in 2025, they do not simply copy the designs of Swiss watches, most of them have one common feature, which is integrating traditional Chinese culture into modern watch design, especially for this brand Vager Hauers, I have already introduced its watch in my previous post at https://www.bobswatchstore.com/2025/03/30/vager-hauers-watch-review-yuan-heng-li-zhen-twelve-shichen/, today, I will introduce another watch from them, it is a very interesting watch.

It it a Russian watch? This is the first impression it gave to me, its dial has a little bit Russian style, it reminds me of the Konstantin Chaykin Joker, but totally different. The dial has really impressive designs, it is like the face of a joker. The dial has a vertical brushing finish, the brand logo VAGER HAUERS is tridimensional. The fan-shaped window at 10:00 is a power reserve indicator with a twisted silver hand pointing at remaining energe. On its right side at 2:00, it is a round date indicator with a black dots pointing at current date. The date wheel has dark red, green and white colors, whose color combination is just in line with that of the small triangles around the dial, these small triangles as hour markers and minute scales are like the teeth. The green triangles are used as hour markers. The two eyes of the clown is a fun and playful design. At 6:00 clock, the red lip has a opening mouth that is showing a working tourbillon movement.

The movement inside is a Sea-gull tourbillon calibre, which is ST8001, it has a beating frequency of 21,600 times per hour, the power reserve is 38 hours. This is a manual winding tourbillon movement that has simple polishing on the plate. About inaccuracy, it is about ±15 seconds each day.

Conclusion:

It is an interesting watch with a good Chinese Sea-gull tourbillon movement. Quality should be ok and trusted. Its unique and playful dial design will also make you have some fun by replacing with some leather bands.

Vager Hauers Watch Review – Yuan Heng Li Zhen Twelve Shichen

Guangdong is one of the earliest provinces in China to implement reform and opening up, there are three famous cities that have connection with watches, Guangzhou, Dongguan and Shenzhen. When mentioning Guangzhou, what watches you will think of? Yes, you are right, replicas watches. While what is connection between Dongguan and watches? You may not know most watches parts including cases and bracelets are made in factories of Dongguan, on my blog, some homage watches reviewed also made in Dongguan. In Shenzhen, this is a place of the future and hope of the development of China watches, because I have seen many creative ideas in watch-making come from watch companies in Shenzhen. In brief, fakes in Guangzhou, watch manufacturing in Dongguan, innovation happens in Shenzhen, movements from several cities in northern China like Tianjin, Dandong and Shanghai.

Back to the watch I am going to introduce today, it is a new watch I just found, totally a Chinese style watch, Chinese words on the dial, but this won’t cause inconvenience for you to read time. Do you know this brand? Beside the date window, four Chinese words “維傑豪兹”, which is Vager Hauers in English, this is a watch brand founded in Shenzhen, on their website, I saw an interesting thing, which is Vager Hauers claims that they are an independent watch maker in China, yes, any of these homage brands in China that has a small workshop can be an independent watch brand. Even their watch company has an address registered in Shenzhen, but all watches are shipped from Yunnan, so I guess their watches were assembled in Yunnan.

The watch has a similar outlook to Lange, but is is completely made for the Chinese, if you know some Chinese characters, you will find this watch is very interesting. The dial completely explains to the world how the Chinese understand time. Especially the white bigger subdial on the left, there are twelve Chinese characters, they are “子”, “丑”, “寅”, “卯”, “辰”, “巳”, “午”, “未”, “申”, “酉”, “戌”, “亥”, each of these Chinese characters is called Shichen in Chinese, which represents a time period during the day, that is two hours in modern times. So, this Shichen subdial is actually a 24-hour display in Chinese way. The offcentre small dial on the lower right is a display of the small seconds. On the following, I will explain all Chinese characters on the dial.

元亨利貞 – Yuan Heng Li Zhen, it is is the classic judgment in the I Ching. Here is the meaning:
元: represents the primal force of creation, the source of all things
亨: signifies smooth development, unobstructed progress, and success.
利: indicates that the situation is favorable, bringing benefit when aligned with the right path.
貞: means steadfastness, integrity, and enduring in the right way.
Some people believe that “元”, “亨”, “利”, “貞” indicate the four seasons in a year, Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.

出離心 – Chu Li Xin, a buddhist concept refers to a deep mental resolve to free oneself from samsara (the cycle of birth, death, and rebirth) and the three poisons (greed, hatred, and delusion). It is not merely about physical withdrawal but a profound shift in perspective—recognizing the suffering and impermanence of worldly pursuits and cultivating a sincere desire for ultimate liberation (nirvana).

丑 – Chǒu (1:00~3:00)
寅 – Yín (3:00~5:00)
卯 – Mǎo (5:00~7:00)

午 – Wǔ (11:00~13:00)
未 – Wèi (13:00~15:00)
申 – Shēn (15:00~17:00)
酉 – Yǒu (17:00~19:00)

On the smaller subdial:
十五 – 15

六十 – 60

At last, I want to say its movement, which is a Japanese Miyota 8219, which has a accuracy of ±5 – ±30 seconds.

Conclusion:

A watch with a strong Chinese I Ching culture. It combines traditional Chinese time display method to show you the 24 hours, this is a great innovation. By the way, some concepts of I Ching and Buddhism transferred through the watch may attract a lot of people who like Chinese culture.
